It's easy to fall into the world of a beautifully crafted illustration. Sometimes, the longer you look, the more detail you notice. Such is the specialty of Polish artist Renata Krawczyk, whose talent shines in the dreamy detailed worlds she draws in her sketchbooks with her pens and pencils.
Based in Lódź, Krawczyk graduated from the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Art before pursuing her own creative practice. She uses a combination of textures like stippling and hatching to craft perfectly balanced compositions in only black and white. “When I draw, I start with a tiny dot,” Krawczyk tells My Modern Met. “Then, slowly, I fill it in with detail. The more tiny elements I create, the more satisfied I am. I just love using textures and I often reinvent them. My favorite, however, is using tiny circles.”
The Polish artist explores themes of magical realism—which combines realistic narrative with fantasy elements—as well as well-known fairy tales. Among her illustrations are references to characters from Alice in Wonderland as well as Cinderella. Scroll down to see more illustrations from Krawczyk's sketchbooks.
